Testimonials
I've been a part of this group for 15 years and I cannot imagine a better place. There are very few peds-only private practices in the country. As such, we get to decide who we want to work with and how we want to practice. The unquestioned strength of this group is the people in it. It's an outstanding group of anesthesiologists and people. We get the full gamut of peds cases: neonates to young adults, cardiac, inpatient/outpatient, surgery center, sedation, healthy kids to extremely complex ones, medical direction and self-performance. Leadership opportunities abound though it's not mandatory. We get to spend the vast majority of our time on direct patient care taking care of kids.
Working at PAPA has meant working with other pediatric anesthesiologists who share my passion for caring for children. Working at two different Children's Hospitals in the Twin Cities allows us to pull into practice our training and knowledge as we care for complex and challenging pediatric patients. By having Minnesota's only pediatric ambulatory surgery center as one of our other sites, we also have an opportunity to see healthy kids presenting for "bread and butter" procedures. This combination of clinical opportunities provides a great balance.
After working in academic medicine for several years, I was grateful to find a private practice anesthesiology group in the Twin Cities that took care of complex pediatric patients. I am continuously amazed by the thoughtful and compassionate care our group provides to our patients, from birth to adolescence and beyond. In addition, living in the Twin Cities provides the cultural depth of a major metropolitan area, with its excellent restaurants, arts, music, and professional sports, while maintaining a strong sense of community. The many parks, lakes, and trails make it easy to stay active year-round, and the changing seasons bring a rhythm that many people come to appreciate. Joining PAPA has been one of the best career decisions of my life.
I am the senior member of PAPA, having practiced in this group for nearly 40 years. I have watched and experienced the growth of pediatric anesthesia and its acceptance as a valuable subspeciality over the years. PAPA expects high standards of our partners who practice in this interesting and diverse subspecialty. From simple day surgery procedures to complex procedures including heart transplants, our practice encompasses a wide variety of surgeries, age and size of patients, and diseases. This variety makes our practice compelling and rewarding to our group members, and the quality of our service earns respect from colleagues, surgeons, and administrators. Even after 40 years of practice, I look forward to each day's challenges. It has been a privilege to work in this environment.
